A little after 1620 history was made as Brittany Ferries flagship set sail for Santander, Spain with fare paying passengers onboard for the first time. She is the largest, longest, widest and fastest ferry operating on the English Channel and to Spain, cutting the sailing time from 24 hours to just 18 hours, virtually half that of competitors. A large crowd lined the shore as she departed, whilst those onboard waved flags from her promenade deck, finding it hard to believe that they were actually on a ferry at all! The Pont-Aven is also the largest ship ever to berth in Plymouth and Roscoff, and is the largest ferry to have operated out of Santander and Cork. Her maiden voyage was certainly the most important and noticeable event to happen within the ferry industry this year, and all eyes are set to be upon her for sometime to come. If you weren't onboard the Pont-Aven for her maiden voyage (why not?!) you can read our official voyage report by clicking here.
